April is Earth Month
Outside of my fibre crafting world, I am a bit of an... environmentalist... granola head... greenie... I don't know what label I want to use. Let's just say that I care about our planet and the impact that I have upon it!
Earth Day is on April 22 and I have been thinking for a while about conducting an "audit" on the waste that I am producing and putting out into the world. One day for that is not enough, so I am dedicating the month of April to Earth Month.
For the month of April, I'm going to keep track of the household waste that my lifestyle produces as recycling, composting and, mainly, garbage.
Here is where we're starting... April 1 and empty bins:
Each day I plan to document my garbage. I know, taking pictures of your garbage could be seen as a little obsessive, but I want to see the truth because, for the most part, I feel like I do a pretty good job but there's always room for improvement!
What I will not be taking pictures of:

What I will not be taking pictures of:
- My compost (eww), but I will keep track of how much of what I compost can be classified as food waste.
- My recycling bin, but I will note whether I have to take it out more than once in a month.
I know for a fact that I am going to have garbage this month. I did not spend months preparing for this audit, restocking my shelves with unpackaged, environmentally friendly products. Therefore, as I use things up I will be sourcing out better items to replace them with... items with less packaging, reusable or recyclable packaging, or with no packaging at all!
I will be posting updates throughout the month to share successes and failures, tips and tricks, and local businesses and products supporting a low-waste way of life. I hope there will be some value in my little project...
That being said, here is my garbage for April 1 (I knew you were waiting for this part):

P.S. I feel like it's only fair to mention that I am a single adult, living alone, and living a pretty modest lifestyle. While I believe that a low-waste lifestyle is achievable for anyone, no matter their living situation, your mileage may vary.
