A Little Waffling

Well, this has gotten off to a rather poor start!

Some could say that I'm doing this all backwards... starting a business with no product, and those people are probably right! I've never been much of a conventional person. I had no aspirations of starting my business with a big holiday craft sale stock or anything of the sort. I simply wanted to gently place my hat in the ring and share my dream.

I have been giving this new venture a lot of thought since announcing my big plans, and while it may have been too early to make any sort of announcement, I'm glad that I did it. I am a great dreamer and planner. I think I get it from my Dad. He was always hatching up plans, drawing diagrams, making notes, much like me. However, I, like he, seem to lack in the area of action... following through. In sharing my plan, I have, in away, forced this dream in to my immediate vision. Instead of just thinking about it wistfully every now and then, I think about it every day. I feel like this is a good thing.

I am a student by nature. If I were independently wealthy with no need to work I would be in school or workshops or lessons every day. I would be out talking to other makers, talking to fibre people, talking to farmers. I love to immerse myself in new things and learn as much as I can. This can be a big help, but it can also be a hindrance. Since making my announcement, I have immersed myself in learning. I've been reading about running a business, making blog plans, finding creative inspiration, new skills, pattern designing, etc, etc, etc, but I have not done any work towards creating a shop, making items, or anything tangible to actually market and sell. Learning is always going to be a part of my passion, but it's time to get to work!

So today I sat down at my wheel and I spun for over an hour. It's not my favourite fibre, but I'm increasing my skill set. I may surprise myself and end up loving it (that has happened before). I am getting in the habit of doing something creative every day. Beautiful things will come from action and I'm ready to get started.
